iPhone battery drains quickly after iOS 26 update
On September 9, Apple unveiled its much-awaited iPhone 17 series. Along with the buzz about the new phone, the new operating system ‘iOS 26’, released a few days later, is receiving mixed reviews from users.
iPhone users around the world have complained that their phone’s battery is draining much faster than before after installing this new update. This update was announced at Apple’s ‘Worldwide Developer Conference’ in June. After installing the update, many users are sharing their experience on social media that their phone’s battery is draining within a few hours.
A user wrote on social media X, “I fully charged my phone just 58 minutes ago, and now it’s down to 79 percent. iOS 26 is making my phone unusable.”
Another user expressed his anger, saying, “Since updating to iOS 26, my phone has been heating up and the battery health has dropped to 80 percent. I haven’t changed my charging habits.”
Similarly, another user wrote about the battery problem, “This morning I used my work phone less than usual, but the battery has already dropped to 50 percent.”
After the increase in user complaints, Apple has said that this is a normal process. In one of its support documents, Apple said, “After completing any update, especially a major update, you may see a temporary impact on battery life and phone temperature. This is normal because your device takes time to complete setup processes such as indexing data and files in the background, downloading new assets, and updating apps.”
The company has stated that some users may experience a minor impact on performance and battery life as the new feature may use more resources from the device.
In addition to the battery problem in iOS 26, users have also criticized other features. The ‘Evil Red Clock’ is also being criticized. The new update adds a feature that displays a clock on the lock screen when the phone is held horizontally. In low light, it defaults to a red clock on a black background.
Users have called it ‘scary’. One user said on TikTok, “Why is this an option? And why is it red? This is the scariest thing ever.”
Similarly, this update also introduces a ‘liquid glass design’ that makes app icons, menus, and pop-ups look like transparent glass. It blurs the background color. Some users have called it ‘the ugliest design Apple has ever made.’ One user wrote, “Steve Jobs would never have approved this.”
Although the iPhone 17 brought excitement to the market, the iOS 26 update seems to have disappointed users in various aspects, from battery to design. According to Apple, the battery problem will resolve itself in a few days. Apple has also been solving such problems through new updates.
