The dangerous Trojan virus spread on social media, affecting tens of thousands of users in 140 countries

More than 10,000 social media accounts in 140 countries have fallen victim to the new Android Trojan. Cyber security company Zimperium recently released a report claiming that the Trojan virus was spread through social media hijacking, third-party app stores, and sideloaded applications.

According to Zimperium, the attack began last March, when the Trojan was first spread from a Facebook account.

The malware, called FlyTrap, has been found to gain access to Android devices, hijack social media accounts and collect information through the user's IP address, location, email, cookies, and tokens.

"Malware can be spread on these hijacked social networks by abusing user credibility and sending Trojan-linked links to various people via text messages," said Zimperium researchers.

These social engineering technologies are becoming increasingly effective in the digital age and are often used by cybercriminals to spread malware from one victim to another, he said.

"They appear to be attracting users, including free Netflix coupon codes, Google AdWords coupon codes, and appeals to vote for the best football team or player," Zimperium said.

Researchers have speculated that the Vietnamese group may have been responsible for the attack.

They are said to have succeeded in spreading the attack using Google Play and other app stores. Based on that, the searchers informed Google about it.

After verifying the malware report, Google immediately removed all apps from the Google Play Store.

Here's how to use a free VPN to securely run the Shareit app

Share-it is a highly trusted and used app as an easy and fast way to share files. As it operates both online and offline, its popularity is growing.

It is especially popular among students and young professionals. Large files can also be shared in a minute or two using ShareIt.

However, as Shareite is a third-party app, it requires a lot of advertising and personal permissions. Users are using the app without allowing them to read it well.

Due to this, the issue of user privacy has been raised in recent times. But the Shareite app can also be used safely using some special software tools.

The advantage of VPN

Online security and privacy can be guaranteed using a VPN or private network. VPN helps create a secure connection between the user's device and the Internet.

This is because when using a VPN, the user's data is encrypted in a virtual tunnel, not directly, which hides the user's entire personal details.

This will reduce the risk of user data being stolen. However, users need to know what type of VPN they are using.

Most good VPNs have to be paid for. If one wants to use a good VPN, it would be better to use a paid VPN.

But if some users want to use a free VPN, some good free VPNs can also be found in the market. One of the best free VPNs on the market is 'Going VPN'.

GoingVPN

Going VPN is a reliable and secure VPN based on user feedback. This guarantees cyber security when using a going VPN when sending or receiving files from Shareit.

Although free, this VPN's encryption process will be strong, so this VPN is very useful for keeping personal data safe.

This will reduce the risk of your data being stolen while using ShareIt. Going VPN can also be used around the clock for online security.

Also, it is known as a faster VPN than other VPNs, so you don't have to worry about buffering or lag.

It is available on both Android and Apple devices.

E-passport, national identity card number mandatory from English New Year

From the coming English New Year, an e-passport (electronic passport) will be formally introduced in Nepal. According to the Passport Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, preparations are being made to test the electronic passport before it is introduced.

Dornach Aryal, director-general of the department, said that the department has put forward a plan to start a three-month trial period from the last week of October. It is being prepared to introduce an electronic passport from the first week of January 2022 after the end of the trial period.

Aryal of the department informed that the work of production of the electronic passport has been expedited by signing an agreement with the French company Idemia Identity and Security France SAS in September last year. On December 23 last year, an agreement was reached at a cost of about two and a half billion rupees for the production of electronic passports.

According to him, 2 million electronic passports will be printed in the first phase. As the government of Nepal has already approved the design of the passport, only the formality of printing is left. Necessary technical preparations are being made to print it in Nepal.

The electronic passport is known as the third generation passport of ISO 1903 recognized in the world's generation of passports. Secure chips are attached to the polycarbonate sheet of this passport. In which various details of the person are stored. Due to this, an electronic passport is considered to be very secure and reliable, pointed out by Director General Aryal.

According to him, the existing machine-readable passport can be updated until the electronic passport is introduced. For which there is still a stock of three lakh passports.

The department has urged to make electronic passports if necessary rather than in a hurry.

He said, "The number of beneficiaries has come in large numbers saying that the electronic passport is about to expire. It is not necessary to make it until the expiration date." Earlier, a citizenship number was mandatory for everyone when applying for a passport. The number of national identity cards has also been made mandatory to discourage misuse of the electronic passport.

The Government of Nepal has not distributed national identity cards to all Nepali citizens. So far, only about 3 million people have been issued national identity cards. He said, “National identity card is a very personal identity number, which does not match with each other and is also very secure in terms of digital security. ”

Therefore, when the registration number of the identity card is linked to the electronic passport, there is no possibility of anyone committing mischief. The department has stressed the need to start the distribution by setting up a separate desk in the registration department and the district administration office in the district. The department is preparing to issue information for that.

In 2020, out of the total stock, 243,314 passports were issued. Rajendra Pandey, director of the department, said that the department is facing the challenge of completing the MRP passport as soon as possible and issuing the electronic passport on time.

He clarified that electronic passports will be introduced to reduce the government's deficit by combining the old inventory and the introduction of new passports.

According to him, if you do not have a physical identity card, you can easily make an electronic passport even if you bring only the registered identity card number.

Ease of world travel

The electronic passport that will replace the MRP passport will make it easier for ordinary Nepali citizens to travel the world. According to the department, after the distribution of electronic passports, the passengers of Nepal will get the facility of international standard transportation. Nepali citizens will be relieved from the hassle of sitting in line for hours like Arabela.

After touching the electronic passport machine, the hassle of repeated testing will also be removed. Similarly, in some international airports with electronic gates, Nepali citizens will be able to move easily through the door when the door is opened for traffic by looking at the face sensor of the carrier.

Electronic passports will put an end to the situation where Nepali citizens carrying MRP passports have to wait in line for hours on various machines and undergo administrative procedures.

Identity card number is mandatory

The department has stated that the national identity card has been made mandatory for Nepali citizens in Nepal to get an electronic passport. Director-General Aryal informed that the citizenship number will remain the same for Nepali citizens living abroad.
