Wi-Fi does not work as expected? Do this
Whether it is watching movies online or playing online games, we all need high speed internet. If the internet is somehow slow, the whole work will be interrupted. However, in some cases, you may be responsible for not having good and quality internet. Today we will discuss how to improve Wi-Fi quality:
-Move the router
Keeping the router hidden also affects the Wi-Fi speed. If you put it in a corner, put it under things or put it in a drawer, the signal of the router will be interrupted. As a result, the internet becomes slow. So it is better to place the router in a wider area.
By placing the router in the center of your house or room, the signal reaches all areas. Moreover, the router should be placed according to the location of your computer or mobile device.
For example, devices that consume a lot of bandwidth, such as laptops or desktops, should be placed close to the router. Compared to that, devices that consume less bandwidth like smartphones are kept a little further away.
Similarly, do not keep the router in such a way that it is scratched. Even if you keep everything on the wall, you should not put it at the top or bottom. It is better to keep it in the middle. Likewise, do not place devices that use electromagnetic waves (baby monitors, wireless keyboards, microwaves, etc.) around the router.
-Using an Ethernet cable
If there is a problem with the wireless connection, using an Ethernet cable is an option. It is faster and more stable than a router. And, the router does not interfere with other devices.
However, its downside is that it should only be used in certain areas. Ethernet connected devices cannot be moved from one place to another. Usually the router has an Ethernet port. You can use the internet by connecting a cable to it. Arrange the wires to make it a little neater.
- Change channel or band
Wi-Fi signals are divided into channels. A router uses a special channel to communicate with your device. Which may interfere with your neighbor's router. Which slows down the Wi-Fi speed.
You must have access to the router's settings to change the channel. This varies depending on the model of the router. When this happens, refer to the documentation that came with the router or online. You can use 1, 6 or 11 channels. In June there are less obstacles.
Today's modern routers have two frequencies, 2.4 and 5 GHz. Set only one band to a specific device if your router's settings support it.
In short, 5 GHz is faster. But its range is low. Likewise, the area occupied by 2.4 GHz is more. However, the speed is low. Moreover, some older model devices support only 2.4 GHz. In this case, it is better to enable both these bands on the router.
- Upgrading the router
There are routers available in the market with different prices and features. If there are many places in the house or office where Wi-Fi is slow, then the location of the router should be changed.
Or you can use mesh router system. It plays a role in distributing the same internet system throughout the house uniformly. This method can be used in small areas as well.
- Wi-Fi version
Some think Wi-Fi is the same thing. However, Wi-Fi also has different versions. For example: Wi-Fi Six, Wi-Fi Six E.
Each Wi-Fi version has a different speed and capacity. It is better to use the latest version of Wi-Fi whenever possible. But there should also be a Wi-Fi supporting device of that version.
- Wi-Fi extender
If the location of the router is correct but the internet is not working, you can use a Wi-Fi extender to solve it. It extends the Wi-Fi connection further.
Usually these devices are placed on the wall and connect to the existing Wi-Fi. After this, it helps to extend the Wi-Fi range throughout the house. This can be a good option, especially for devices that consume less bandwidth.
-Using an electrical wing
If you are looking for other options to improve Wi-Fi range, a 'power line kit' or electrical wing may be a good option. This type of device takes the help of the electrical wiring of the house to increase the Wi-Fi range.
For this you need to plug an adapter into any wall socket. Which has to be connected to the router through Ethernet. Then you can plug the other adapter into the wall socket in the other room.
After this, you can use Wi-Fi in that room either wired or wireless. However, this type of device may not work in a conventionally wired home.
- Keep a secure password
If you have a weak password or no password, other people can connect to your Wi-Fi. It automatically slows down your internet speed.
Therefore, keep the password in such a way that other people cannot easily guess it. You can also use 'AES encryption' on your Wi-Fi. Which is safe as well as effective.
-Disconnect unused devices
Connecting many devices to Wi-Fi with limited capacity directly affects the speed of the Internet. When this happens, disconnect Wi-Fi on devices that are not in use or are not needed.
And if possible Use Ethernet for devices that require a direct connection. It plays a role in increasing your internet speed.
- Restart the router
In some cases, restarting the router solves some connection-related problems. But there is no need to restart regularly.
You can do this especially if there is a bottleneck in bandwidth or connection. But most of today's routers automatically reboot when such an interruption occurs.
- Checking the device
Even when there is a problem with the computer device, the internet speed is reduced. If too many programs are open on the computer, it becomes overloaded.
Some of these programs consume more bandwidth. This also affects the internet speed on your computer. When this happens, close unnecessary or bandwidth consuming programs.
- Calling the ISP
You must be running Wi-Fi with the services of some Internet Service Provider (ISP). However, no matter how hard you try, if the Wi-Fi problem is not resolved, contact your ISP. They can give you more advice and send a technician to your home.
