Meta includes Nepal in the list of eligible countries for content monetization
Meta has officially included Nepal in the list of eligible countries for ‘Facebook Content Monetization’. Meta has officially listed Nepal on its website since Monday.
With this, the way to earn income from Facebook has now opened for Nepali Facebook users and content creators. Earlier, Meta had been informally informing Nepali users that the service had been launched on the basis of ‘invitation’. However, now the company has also included Nepal in the list of eligible countries.
With this, all eligible Nepali creators can apply for this facility. Facebook is providing the facility of content monetization to creators who have converted their Facebook page or profile to professional mode.
The company has also informed some users through email that this facility has been officially launched in Nepal.
What is content monetization and what are its benefits?
Content monetization is a system that allows you to earn money by 'monetizing' your content on Facebook, such as photos, videos, reels, stories, and text posts. Under this feature, Facebook displays advertisements on the creator's content and gives a certain share of the income generated from it to the creator. Creators can earn income based on the engagement on the post. However, information on how this is measured has not been released. Currently, Facebook's system decides how much money to give to which creator for which post.
This decision by Meta has provided a great opportunity for Nepali content creators to earn income through digital content. Earlier, they were forced to use foreign bank accounts or other informal means to earn such income. Now, creators will be able to receive money directly into their Nepali bank accounts. This will increase remittances entering the country and will also significantly increase the tax collected by the government.
How to qualify for monetization?
To earn income from Facebook, creators have to complete some procedures.
1) Professional Mode: First of all, you need to switch your Facebook profile or page to ‘Professional Mode’. For this, you need to go to your profile settings and select the ‘Turn On Professional Mode’ option. There, you need to select what type of creator you are (e.g. Digital Creator, Singer, Actor). (You don’t need to do anything regarding the page)
2) Apply for Monetization: After going to the profile professional mode, you need to go to the ‘Monetization’ option under the ‘Professional Dashboard’. If you are already eligible, then various tools (e.g. Stars, Ads on Reels) will appear there. If you are not eligible, then you can apply by going to ‘Not Yet Eligible’. Facebook approves the application based on the activity and criteria of your profile.
3) Payout and Tax Setup: After the application is approved, you need to set up the payout setup to collect the income.
* Tax Info: For this, you must fill in your full name, date of birth, permanent address, and permanent account number (PAN) according to your citizenship.
* Bank Account: To receive payment, you must fill in your bank account details. For this, you will need the bank's 'SWIFT Code' and your account number.
Meta has started providing this facility to Nepali users amid the Nepali government's preparations to deactivate unlisted social networks within the country.
