Dating app Bumble CEO says, “Now AI is the one doing the dating!”
Dating apps have changed social life around the world. But now a new concept that takes it in an even more unique direction – ‘AI-powered Personas’ – has come into the spotlight.
Bumble founder Whitney Wolfe Hurd told the Bloomberg Tech Summit in San Francisco last Thursday that her company is considering how AI can be used to help women find relationships. According to her, in the future, users will not have to talk to thousands of people themselves. Instead, the user’s personal AI persona will communicate with other AI people and choose the most suitable partner. In this way, it is expected that the work of humans to read direct messages or profiles will decrease, and the system of selection will increase. At the summit, she envisioned a future where “your dating concierge goes on dates with another dating concierge and you don’t have to talk to 600 people.”
However, the concept has received mixed reactions. Some have called it a “smart way to save time and energy on dating,” while many users have found it “unnatural and uncomfortable.” Some on social media have expressed concerns that it could undermine human relationships, calling it a Black Mirror-style future.
However, dating apps such as Bumble are currently struggling with fake profiles, fraud, and declining popularity. In this situation, AI is expected to provide a new alternative. According to former Bumble CEO Lydiane Jones, AI will make “fewer but quality matches” possible. According to her, AI can help find more meaningful relationships by studying signals such as user behavior, tone of voice, and life circumstances.
In Nepal, dating apps are still not that popular. Nepali It can be assessed whether dating apps are not popular among users. In such a situation, the chances of AI Personas becoming popular in Nepal seem extremely low.
