John Turns has been on social media since taking over as Apple's new CEO. Turns has officially taken over Apple's new leadership since September 1, after Tim Cook, who successfully led the company for nearly 15 years, stepped down.

He came to the center of public discussion by posting his first post on X on the very day he took office. Turns had written 'Hello' as his first post on X and kept his status. Although he opened an X account after it was confirmed that he would become Apple's new CEO in June last year, he made his first post only after taking office on September 1. In the short time he has been active on X, the number of his followers has reached nearly one million.

Even Elon Musk, the owner of X, has welcomed Turns' first post by saying, "Apple's new CEO started posting on X." Although Turnus has joined LinkedIn, he has not posted anything on it.

Tim Cook will take on the role of “executive chairman” of Apple’s board of directors after stepping down. Cook, who joined Apple in 1998, took over as CEO after Steve Jobs’ death in 2011. Cook has been planning his successor for the past year after expressing a desire to reduce his workload, with Turnus being the first choice.

With Turnus taking the helm, Johnny Srouji has been appointed to his old role, the head of the hardware engineering department.

Born in California, Turnus graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was also a member of the university’s swim team. After graduating in 1997, Turnus worked for a while at a VR startup called ‘Virtual Research Systems’ before joining Apple in 2001. He spent nearly 25 years at Apple, becoming vice president of hardware engineering in 2013 and head of the same department in 2021.

Under Turns' leadership, Apple has achieved many significant hardware technology successes. In particular, sales of Mac computers have surged after Apple replaced Intel chips with its own 'Apple Silicon' chips in 2020. In addition, profitable products such as the Apple Watch and AirPods, and the recently released 'Vision Pro' headset, have also been brought under his leadership. Considered gentle and balanced in nature, Turns' working style is considered more similar to Tim Cook than Steve Jobs.

During the transfer of office, Cook praised Turns, calling him "a person with the mind of an engineer, the soul of an inventor, and the heart to lead with integrity." Turns also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn from legends like Steve Jobs and Tim Cook and said that he is fully committed to advancing Apple's mission.

Turns takes over at Apple at a time when the company's market value is around $4.7 trillion and annual profits are more than $100 billion. The company has set new sales records this year, driven by strong demand for iPhones in China. However, as the new CEO, Turns faces the challenge of competing with rivals such as Google and Microsoft in the field of artificial intelligence. He will have to push ahead with plans to revamp the virtual assistant Siri with the help of Google's Gemini technology to strengthen the company's hold on the AI ​​space.
