4 tips from Rashtra Bank to avoid online fraud
With the widespread use of the Internet, the incidents of online fraud in Nepal are increasing day by day. Nepal Rastra Bank has requested the general public to take special precautions to avoid such frauds.
The National Bank has mentioned that platforms like WhatsApp, Messenger, Viber, Telegram, SMS have become the main means used by fraudsters. By such means fraudsters send fake messages like "You have won an expensive mobile, gold prize", whose main aim is to steal your personal and financial details.
Fraudsters offer you investments in cryptocurrency, forex or online betting, claiming to make you rich quick. Such offers try to steal many people's bank accounts and personal information.
Follow these tips to stay safe:
- Ignore messages from strangers. Do not immediately trust any message or call from any unknown number or person.
- Check the authenticity of the message. If you receive a financial support message even if it comes from an acquaintance, first confirm the truth.
-Be more careful. Do not respond immediately to messages received on platforms such as WhatsApp and Messenger.
- Do not share personal details with anyone. Always be careful when sharing your bank account or personal details online.
- Don't fall for attractive offers. Be aware of investment offers that claim to have a lot of benefits in a short period of time.
Nepal Rastra Bank has asked to be more careful while doing financial transactions and requested to pay special attention to be safe from fraud incidents.
