Facebook and Instagram's eyes are on your personal details, aren't they being misused somewhere?
It has been revealed that social media platforms Facebook and Instagram track their users. It is not uncommon for you to click on a website you see on Facebook and Instagram and get redirected to your browser of choice.
The browser you are redirected to or the website you want to view is a custom in-app browser. Such browsers inject JavaScript code into each website, which allows Meta, the parent company of these platforms, to track you.
This means that if you open another website by clicking a link on Facebook or Instagram, Meta is tracking you through that website.
Cyber security researcher Felix Krause discovered this recently. According to him, their tracking code is injected into every website link found on Instagram and Facebook apps.
Such links are mostly found in advertisements. It works to send details like address, credit card numbers, etc. to Meta along with the user's personal details.
His research focused on the iOS versions of Facebook and Instagram. In a conversation with The Guardian, Meta said that they have not misused the information and will not allow it to be misused.

It's now easier to talk privately on Facebook
Social network Facebook is providing end-to-end encryption service to users through the 'Secret Conversation' feature for secret conversations. For this, the user has to create a separate secret conversation chat box with the person he wants to talk to.
But the company is now going to make private conversations on Facebook easier. The company is testing to provide end-to-end encryption as a default feature in Facebook Messenger.
The company has said that it will test this feature among some limited users from this week. The company believes that the end-to-end encryption feature, which is available by default, provides more security to users.
In this feature, the company itself will not be able to keep any record of the user's conversation. Also, it is said that this type of conversation will be difficult for a hacker to hack.
Similarly, the company said that this feature will make digital conversations safer.
In the last few years, Meta encryption has been working for the security and safe use of the users. Even now, the end-to-end encryption feature is provided by default in WhatsApp.
The testing of this feature has also started on Instagram. But on Messenger, users were criticizing Meta for not providing this feature.
After a long time of criticism, now the company is going to provide this feature by default.
The younger generation using Facebook is declining
Generation Z, the latest generation who have access to the Internet at a young age, continues to grow. However, studies have shown that the number of people using Facebook in this generation is decreasing. According to the study report released recently by the Pew Research Center, only 32 percent of teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17 use Facebook.
Earlier, a study conducted in 2014-1015 showed that 71 percent of the young generation is connected to Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. However, recent studies have shown that the latest generation is moving away from social media.
"The younger generation doesn't see any value in Facebook," says Jules Terpak, a content creator related to Gen Z. "This generation is more focused on their interests than family relationships." In this case, they don't get any value-add on Facebook.
He says, "The 32 percent of this generation who are connected to Facebook should be connected to Facebook because they are more connected with their families." Pew's study report is not the only one that publicized this situation on Facebook.
Previously, Facebook's internal report released in 2021 also showed that the number of young Facebook users decreased by 13 percent compared to 2019.
In addition, the report estimated that the number of young users will decrease by 45 percent by 2023. In this way, Instagram has given some relief to Meta, which is losing the young generation to Facebook.
Pew's report shows that 62 percent of the youth use Instagram. That said, 67 percent use Tik Tok.
80,000 new users are added to PUBG every day
It is found that 80 thousand new users are added every day in Player Unknown Battleground (PubG).
In a report released recently by Crafton, the maker of Pubg, it is mentioned that a significant number of new users of the game are increasing.
According to the report, the number of users of the PC version of PUBG has increased since the company changed its business strategy to a 'free-to-play' model.
With the increase in users, the income of the company has also increased. According to the report, the company's earnings have increased by 20 percent in the same period of this year compared to the first six months of last year.
Although the company did not mention in the report how much its total income was, it said that it earned only 550 million dollars from PUBG Mobile.
