Which laptop is suitable for IT students?
Students who are studying Information Technology (IT) or who are interested in studying, a laptop is a necessary tool to do various technical work. For example - programming, graphics design, data analysis and other computing activities etc. It is equally important to have a suitable laptop to do these tasks effectively.
If the main working laptop is bad, the whole work will be interrupted. So when buying a laptop, you need to get a laptop that has features that meet your needs.
Today we are going to discuss the basic requirements and features of buying a laptop for IT students regardless of the laptop model:
processor
The software used by IT students is often very powerful and capable. A mid-range processor like Core i5 (i5) or Ryzen 5 (ryzen 5) can be used to run it. But for complex tasks, a high-capacity processor is required. In that case, it is better to take a higher generation processor than Core i7 (i7) or Ryzen seven (ryzen 7).
ram
Any IT student should have at least 16 GB of RAM in his laptop. With this much RAM, it becomes easy to run many software simultaneously, including graphics design, video editing. But if the budget is low then 8 GB RAM should be minimum.
storage
SSD (Solid State Drive) has become a must in laptops these days. Because it makes the laptop fast and agile. So it is better to choose a laptop with at least 512 GB SSD. If you want to keep a lot of data in the laptop, you can keep HDD (Hard Disk Drive) along with SSD.
graphics card
It is not that IT students only do programming. They can also do work like graphics design, 3D modeling or game development. A dedicated GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) is required for those tasks. Typically, a midrange GPU with 4GB of RAM will work. But for higher level tasks it is better to get more capable GPU.
Screen resolution and size
It is not fun to work on a small and low resolution screen. Therefore, the screen resolution should be at least Full HD (1920x1080). Screens with IPS panels with good color accuracy are suitable for graphics design. Generally 14 to 15.6 inch laptop size is good.
Battery life
Despite all these features above, if the battery does not last, it will become useless. Moreover, most IT students use laptops for long periods of time. Therefore, it is advisable to get a laptop with at least 6 hours of battery life.
Connectivity port
In the course of study or work, students have to connect the laptop with various devices and accessories. Therefore, getting a laptop with options like USB 3.0, USB C, HDMI, Ethernet port, etc. will help you a lot in later work.
Weight and ease
An IT student may need to carry a laptop not only to college but also to other places. So it is better to get a laptop that is light and easy to carry. It is not practical to take a laptop that is uncomfortable to carry around.
These are the main things. But along with this, students should also pay attention to the selection of other auxiliary devices. Basically such devices include keyboard, mouse, headphones/earphones etc
price
At present, the brands of laptops such as Apple, Dell, Asus, HP, Acer, Lenovo, MSI are available in the Nepali market. The price of laptops with the above mentioned specifications varies according to the brand.
Especially, the price varies due to the date of launch of the laptop, country of export, seller, after sales service etc. If you are buying a laptop for an IT student, it is important to understand the prices of different brands and sellers.
If you look at the specifications on online platforms like Daraz, Hukut, Mudita Store, Neostore, Alam Tech, laptops ranging from 50 thousand to 200,000 rupees are available in the Nepali market. You can buy a suitable laptop according to your budget.
